Artist's Comments

This is the reason I haven't submitted much since early January.

I had the idea for this when I thought my instructor would be disappointed about this painting being too small (we are encouraged to work big). It didn't end up being too much bigger, but I'm fine with that. This is probably my most involved painting.

After painting the four ... paintings, I was able to cut them
out with a dremel (which worked rather well as you can see). Then after 3 or 4 trips to Home Depot, my dad and I cut and put the frame together. We used 2x2s as a sort of base that we angle-cut and mitre-jointed together (drilled and affixed with screws), then did the same thing on top with baseboard pieces. We drilled holes and hammered small nails to fix the baseboard to the "foundation" piece.

The masonite pieces have a piece of wood on the back with about 8 dowel holes. There are 4 dowel holes in the frame (1 in the center of each side). Using dowels, the masonite bits can be affixed to any side of the painting, in many different positions. They can also be rotated.

At this point, there are only 3 masonite pieces...leaving one dowel hole showing. My dad recommended making a title plaque for the piece, but I'm not sure if I want to do that just yet.

Daily DeviationIdentity Collective by *13shadesofblack "is a really awesome piece full of a lot of great tones and looks pretty rad with a pair of 3D glasses on," according to the recommender. Oh dude, this is the greatest thing I have seen today. I love this a lot, especially the shark like figure on the very top. Everything just fits so well love the red and blues.
this is the reason you should submit something everyday.
I think a title plaque would be a nice touch. I like it!
Thanks! It was hard to adhere to the color scheme, but I managed to do it. I only used 3 colors for the majority of this +b&w. I'm going to submit it to a school gallery tomorrow.

Thanks! I wonder if I could do that. Maybe I'll try to submit something for every day in a specific month. Maybe June.

I'm a real sucker for bumping things out dimensionally like that... this is pretty awesome, I gotta say. The shark head at the top is a particularly nice touch
Thanks! My instructor wants me to do more similar stuff like this too.
