This is my submission for ~themethursdays. I'm just beyond the week of the topic "Adventure", but I wanted to submit something (just like with "Halloween Party"). I was thinking about adventure for a while, and to simplify the idea, I tried to think of a figure that encapsulates the idea to me. Then I remembered "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen". If you haven't seen it, it's a fantastic film directed by Terry Gilliam about a sort of tall tale/legendary character named Baron Munchausen who woos the ladies, travels to various lands with his legendary companions and has all kinds of adventures.

I started to draw the Baron in a very "straight" manor, and I really hated the drawing, so I took up the "messy marker" approach again and now I really like it. Plus I used photo references. I also applied a color and a halftone pattern across the background to tie it together a bit better.

Very nice, I think you captured him well. I haven't seen the movie yet but I guess I should, it's Terry Gilliam after all. I just remember that when I was little we had a book with 365 bedtime stories, one for every day of the year. The story for my mom's birthday was about Baron Münchhausen, who always told these fantastic stories which might all have been lies. Did you know that he is based on a real person?
Ah anyway, sorry for rambling.

Yeah, I dunno. He flies a hot air balloon constructed of ladies panties at one point. I've never read the old stories about him though.

Thanks! Yeah, it's tough to submit something every week, and frankly I'm amazed that I've put something up for most themes so far. But it's been a nice break from my robots so far. Hopefully I can keep it up.

Thank you. Yeah, I saw the movie a long time ago, but I never read any of the stories. Is Munchausen a German name/character? For some reason I feel like he is. I want to get a Baron Munchausen storybook though. I've seen them online.
